What is Bruxism?
Bruxism is the condition of teeth being squeezed due to unobstructed jaw movements without being aware of while sleeping or awake. Also known as teeth grinding. That situation, which has been very common in society in recent years, maybe due to many reasons.
What could be the reason for bruxism?
The causes of clenching include orthodontic disorders and closing disorders, stressful situations in daily life, respiratory problems such as asthma at a young age.
If bruxism is not treated on time, it can lead to serious joint problems, restricted mouth opening, gingival recession, tooth breakage or abrasion, tooth sensitivity, tooth loss and chronic headaches. For this reason, it is very important to apply to the dentist as soon as this condition is noticed.
How is bruxism treated?
In the treatment of bruxism, after a detailed examination of the teeth, chewing muscles and jaw joints, the cause and characteristics of the disease are determined, and then treatment planning is established. Among the generally applied treatments; night plate, botox therapy, exercises, drug treatments (painkillers, muscle relaxants) can be counted. Treatment methods vary according to the case.
