Children’s Dentistry (Pedodontics)
What is Pedodontics?
Pedodontics, which is child dentistry, is a dentistry department that deals with the oral and dental health of babies and children between the ages of 0-13, determine the problems and carries out treatments with special techniques for children. Milk teeth start to be applied in the mouth starting from the 6th month and they take their places in the mouth with a total of 20 until the 36th month. This process may vary from child to child. In addition to duties such as chewing, grinding, feeding, ideal development of speech, milk teeth also have functions such as guiding and holding place for the next permanent teeth. In this case, it is possible to say that any problem to occur in milk teeth will affect future oral health. It is necessary to maintain the milk teeth from beginning to appear in the mouth. At this point, it is very important to give the child the habit of oral care and to plan dentist visits. Early diagnosis of possible problems will prevent irreversible situations caused by these problems.
When should be the first visit to the dentist?
The first visit to the dentist for children should be done right after the teeth appear in the mouth, that is, between 6 months and 1 year. During this visit, parents are informed about possible problems and oral care. The continuity of oral and dental health is ensured.
